Trinity Alps Unified School District is inviting anyone that was coached or taught by Chris Althof, to come help honor him on Saturday, January 20th at 1:00 PM at the Weaverville Elementary School gymnasium. At their October 9th school board meeting, the Board approved naming the gym after him. The gym will now be called the “Chris Althof Gymnasium.”
Althof was the first PE teacher hired at Weaverville Elementary School (WES). A recent graduate of Chico State, he was hired in 1972 at the young age of 23. He worked at the elementary school for 33 years as a teacher and a coach. He coached boys’ basketball (30 years) and also boys flag football, coed track and field, and girls’ volleyball. Althof became Principal of WES his last year, before retiring.
Superintendent Jaime Green said naming the gym after Althof is part of the District’s efforts to “capture the history of the District, it is important to honor those that have given so much to our schools and our students."
